You can run typing practice for a whole class with no student accounts: make a practice, share one link or one class code, and students start typing. Each student's progress stays on their own device. If you want to reuse your practices, sign in with your email — students still never do.
how it works
- 1. make a practice. Open schools.lowkeytype.com/create and choose a word list, a passage, or a ready-made set such as a Dolch sight-word list. No account is needed to get a link.
- 2. share it. Copy the link into Google Classroom or an email, show the QR code on the board, or print a handout. The words travel inside the link, so it keeps working.
- 3. or give your class a code. Sign in with your email to save practices and get a six-digit class code. Write the code on the board once; each week, choose which saved practices are visible behind it.
- 4. students type. Students open the link, or go to schools.lowkeytype.com and enter the code. They see the words first, type them, and get a plain result: accuracy, speed and time.
questions
- do my students need to sign in or have accounts?
- No, and they cannot create one. A student opens a link or enters your class code and starts typing. Nothing about who they are is asked for or sent.
- can i see which students finished?
- Not yet. Today a student sees their own result, and can copy one line of it to paste into Google Classroom if you ask them to. Live class sessions, where you see how the whole class is doing, are the next thing being built — and the privacy page will say exactly what they send before they arrive.
- does it work on chromebooks and through our school's filter?
- Yes. It runs in the browser with nothing to install, and there is exactly one domain to allow: lowkeytype.com. Fonts, pages and practice text all come from it. For a written review or a filter request, email schools@lowkeytype.com.
- what happens if a student clears their browser?
- Their own practice history on that device is cleared. Shared links and your class code keep working, and your saved practices are unaffected, because they are stored under your teacher account.
- what is the class code, and who can see what is behind it?
- A six-digit code that leads to your class page. Anyone with it can see your display name and the practices you have made visible, so it is a way to find your class rather than a password. You can pause the class page instantly, or change the code if it travels too far.
- what do you collect?
- For teachers: an email address, a display name, the practices you save, and when you last used your classroom. For everyone: anonymous counts of practices being created, shared, opened and finished, kept for three months and never shown to anyone as individual activity. The privacy page lists it all.
